Waiting for the weekend

Work has been hectic but ever so fun. Today I had several showers of feelings that this is what I´m good at, this is what I enjoy. I feel lucky. I really do.
I also met friends today, especially one friend made my day even more special. I should take myself and my smiley face to bed, early start again tomorrow. But I think I want to cuddle up to a warm husband for a while - he is still on holiday...
I adore the flower lamps, designed by Helena Christensen for habitat VIP range. I have two of them, and think they spice up an interior, in a fun and playfyul way. Good night!

Educational boards

I admire these educational boards from the 40´s. I have them hanging above our bed. I sometimes lie watching the details and the colours for a long time.
I will now go and lie underneath the fieldpea and the violets, breathe the summernight and eventually fall asleep. And if I´m lucky, I´ll wake up next to a warm husband (yes, he´s coming home tonight!). Sleep well!

Aaaaaaah! What a lovely day it is today! The sun is shining, the breeze is mild and soft, coffee tastes heavenly. BUT, I´m really hungry!!! I have a craving for a filled bun with sundried tomatoes (the really juicy ones) and baked aubergine (oooooh I make the most heavenly baked aubergine with onion and thin sliced tomatoes) plus some fresh herbs... Aaaaaah! And a large ricemilk-latte.... Aaaaaah!

I love Paris

I was so tired last night after work, I had a shower, crawled up on the sofa and fell asleep emmediately. Woke up in the middle of the night, dragged myself to the bathroom to brush my teeth and then "carried myself to bed", so to speak. And slept until very late this sunday morning. Now I´ve had breakfast, read the paper, made another pot of super-delicious coffee and decided to come and read through the blogs I follow.
I will only do a little work in the afternoon, a lot of planning that needs to be done, timetables deadlines things-to-do list-check. But it´s all part of the fun. Tomorrow is my day off, usually we try to make sure that all of us, my colleagues and I have at least two days off per week.
This is my little kitsch-corner in the kitchen, above the fridge. The smaller Eiffel tower is left-overs from a vintage souvenir musical-box I "rescued", it had both the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel tower as miniatures added to the lid. I detached both of them and left the Eiffel tower on the fridge and it soon became something that I smiled at every day . So I gave the musical-box a new look and eventually found a larger Eiffel-tower at the fleemarket for a euro, and stumbled upon the stamp by accident in my drawer where I keep materials for my creative work. I have now decided to collect the whole fridge-plateau full of similar souvenir Eiffel-towers to make a statement that I really, I mean really love Paris!

Back to work

Had a lovely busy day at work. Managed to get plenty done, and feel that I´m right where I ought to be. Soon I will enjoy a sauna. Then lit candles and listen to music, lie on the sofa and just relax. Outside it´s pouring down with rain. And my husband left an hour ago, he travelled to visit his parents for the weekend. I wish I could have joined him, I like his parents tremendesly. But I need to work tomorrow, so I have to visit them later in the summer.

I had not noticed before...

...that one of my cups is a lithophane cup!!! What a surprise! I have been holding this cup against the light for ages. I just find it so amazing!
For some reason, even though I am really looking forward to work tomorrow, there is a certain feeling of longing, or maybe it is sadness. The same kind I used to feel going back to school after a long summerholiday. Even though I always enjoyed going back to school. The same kind of feeling that appears when the august evenings become darker and cooler. I tell myself it´s only july, there´s plenty of summer left. But the melancholy seems to have found me. I´m sure it will all be gone tomorrow.

Last day of summerholiday

Tomorrow, friday, I start working. I am in fact looking forward to work.
I wish I could get this image slightly sharper for you, but for the time beeing I give you a very blurry cherry-lady. I wish for her playfullness, her blink in the eye.

I find this somehow so sensual. I´ve never used stockings, but as seen on vintage pictures, there´s almost something magical with the materials, the way they dressed. Not to mention the stockings that had seams.

I found this bookcover in Copenhagen in august 1989! Me and my friend decided to stay the day in Copenhagen on our first Inter-rail journey. In the evening we continued our journey and in my already full backpack was this little book squeezed in, because I found it so charming! It has travelled with me during all these years, because I still find it as charming;))
The title reads, Because I love you.

This is my little homage for the 40th anniversary of the first moonwalk. And a very good reason to show off my turquoise bottles;)) The smaller one I collected today. I didn´t find peonies in the flowershop on my way home, that would have been perfect. But these flowers will do.

Rain and turquoise botlles

It has been raining heavily since last night. I secretly feel like doing what the couple in the image does, just snug up in bed all day;))
I saw an inspiring post at wonderful Hvítur Lakkrís with turquoise bottles as vases, well, I own one similar bottle, but have been on the lookout for a few I found one on the finnish internet-auction-site and will collect my bottle today. Jeeee! I will need proper equipment as it really is pouring down with rain. But I also somehow enjoy challenging the weather;))

Love on a sunday

The fil-de-fer on our kitchenwall reads "Working-day -love", it was given to us by a friend. The tiles are by a potter called Beni Juslin. I painted all the dots on the wall by hand. Seriously!

I usually drink white wines in the summer, but tonight we felt like having a few glasses of red wine. Lit lots of candles, snug up on the sofa, listen to music, enjoy the wine and beeing on holiday, beeing together.

Saturdays and pancakes

"On saturdays one is obliged to eat plenty of pancakes", that is a wellknown ancient finnish jungle-saying;))
I think pancakes in the sun would be perfect, what a good idea!
Instead of just talking about what a good idea pancakes in the sun is , I better start making those pancakes. And eat plenty of them in the sun.

Today I will visit a photo-exhibition of one of my favorite photographers, Elina Brotherus, and in the evening, enjoy a sauna.
But before that I will continue colouring some more images. But first, coffeeeeeee!

Tinted pictures

I have been colouring b/w pictures of farm animals and well, a very colourful George Washington aswell;)) I like the old fashion of tinting images. It also reminds me of Viewmaster images.
The poultry I will keep, as I have a poultry theme in the´ll see!
The rest I make cards of - and sell or give away.
The pictures are salvaged from old books that I have picked up at the recyklingcentre, that I will use for other work.

I slept so well last night, could it be the hibiskus-tea that caused such a good sleep. Had lovely dreams and in the morning I felt so good. Only thing lacking from a perfect summer morning was a lake or the sea. I love swimming in the morning, before breakfast.
As it is a very warm sunny day here, I will cykle to a beach near me to swim, maybe sit and read in the sun. I´ll make some coffe to take with me.

Tea and friendship

How happy I am that I have K in my life. She is a very dear friend. We had a lovely afternoon and evening, cooked dinner together again. Then sat late drinking hibiskus-tea with honey and chatted away and tried out ideas and creations. Tea and friendship, what more can one ask for?
Cykled home in a mild summernight, watched the calm sea, the seagulls, the lonely roads.

Tuesday, 14 July 2009

Woke up really early to birds singing as if there was no tomorrow;)) Got up, had breakfast and read the paper. Decided to make some coffee and come and enjoy the lovely blogs I follow. And as I´m on holiday, I can crawl back under the covers again and have a snooooz...
We had so much fun and so much to do at Ks yesterday, so I´m going back there again today! Looks like a sunny warm day ahead, perfect to cykle along the shore. That means I will take the longer route, the one that has a better view.
The clock is a wartime clock apparently, belonged to my grandfather.

Rain rAiN RaIn raiN ...

It has been raining all morning and that changed my plans for today. I had planned to visit a few shops in town, I´ve run out of paint and glue. And my usual visit to the recyklingcentre to look for old frames. But soon I will challenge the weather and cykle to my friend K. We will cook dinner together and just spend time together, as she is soon off for a few months to Stockholm to have an art exhibition. I will let you know about the exhibition, if you happen to be in Stockholm in august, I´m sure it´s worth a visit.

Oh what to do, what to do? Needed to find a gift for my father. So, saw this fantastic photo of a book made into a piece of art. I decided to copy the idea and here is the outcome. And it´s perfect for my father as he is a bookworm;)) The text at the bottom reads, Till min far (for my father).
The original, or the print, is by Jennifer Khoshbin and can be found at

Prepared breakfast this morning. Usually we eat müsli with milk during the week. But in the weekends it´s nice to prepare breakfast with fruits, cheeses, fresh bread, latte...
I had a colleague once whos children always begged and moaned to have something they called "Big breakfast". For the kids it was more about beeing together than the actual breakfast, or what was served. I can recall breakfasts from my childhood too. My parents were both fairly busy in their professions, therefor I rememeber mornings (they must have been sundays) when I´ve crawled into their bed, lied there watching the sky through their window, talking daydreaming stretching myself as looooong as one can become in a large bed...and "Big breakfasts" with all my dear ones gathered.

More roses. I covered the wardrobe doors in the bedroom with roses.

I picked the roses last night when they were buds, and this morning I was met by a lovely scent as they had blossom during ther night.

Souvenirs from Berlin, part 2.
An old scruffy book (I liked the cover), a piece of metallic junk found in a junk-container at a fleamarket and a tiny emaille-plate by artist Beate Fasterling and a vintage frame that I coloured with nailpolish (I had no paint!).

Mucksmäuschenstill. Silent as a mouse. That is what it says on the emaille-plate.

Yet another mannequin

A mannequin project. I bought her in terrible condition, the fabric was mouldy and was literally falling apart. I stripped the fabric and wadding, mended holes and the broken neckpart, then cleaned the surface and let her dry. You can also have a peak inside the body.
I covered her in logos from the frontpages of old Le journal des Brodeuses (french broidery magazine) that I managed to hunt down a large pile of.
I´m very pleased with the outcome. I´ve had plenty offers from people who want to buy her, but she is not for sale.
I do take on commissions and prepare similar mannequins upon request.

This old lady dates back to late 1800s, she has a tiny waist & bustle. Her waist is so tiny that is no suprise that the tightly-corsetted ladies of that era swooned and fainted!
The buttercup-garland has dried. I think the dried flowers are so beautiful, so delicate.

I cykled for an hour in heavy wind, but decided to turn back as the sky looked as it was going to open, well it did, just as I came home it started to pour down! Now the evening is still, the skyline is as pink as these small glassbottles and box of matches. I will lit candles, pour myself a glass of wine, relax and invite Annie Lennox to sing in the livingroom.
I absolutely adore her voice... this song is lovely, the whole Medusa album is enjoyable.

Margot at the wedding

Last night I rented a film, I chose Margot at the wedding, a film I missed when it was showing at the cinemas a few years ago. I enjoyed it tremendesly. Zane Pais was incredible (young boy in the picture). I love to watch films both at the cinema and at home. I´m a regular visitor at the filmfestivals in Helsinki (Love and Anarchy) and Espoo (Espoo Ciné).

Already framed!

Found a frame that suited the tinted photograph perfectly.

Souvenirs from Berlin

An old tinted photograph, a cockerel, Rainer Maria Rilkes poems, vintage bookend.

A beautiful city with character. Wonderful cafés, small shops, restaurants, flea-markets, bicykles, creaking wooden floors, lovely people, balconies, streets, gardens, patina, history, personality. I´m in love.
