Helsinki

On a cold october morning, on my way to work.
I so love these houses buildings rooftops streets colours. The little creature keeping watch on the stone, wonder if he counts all the visitors to the bakery...

Penguin books

I absolutely adore penguin book covers. I have also gone as far as to start collecting...
May I introduce to you the start of my collection of penguin poets (verse). I have collected the lilac (essays and belles-lettres) series previously.

Now I will climb into bed and continue reading. Good night, sleep well.

Rainy mondays

My friend Hanna came to visit today, we chatted away for a few hrs until I had to rush off to rehersals. How time flew, we seldom meet as she lives 4hrs from Helsinki, but when we meet there´s just sooooo much to talk about. And I love to look at her beautiful face, her tender kind face. I love her sense of humour and her laughter and her voice.
And how I enjoyed singing today, I really love love love to sing! We´re rehersing a few new songs as we have a few performances coming up next month.

Whilst cykling home in the rain I was humming on a new tune, the weather was mild even though it rained. I didn´t mind at all, as I felt so content. I would say it has been a very good day today.

Ex voto heart above. I find them sooooo charming. So delicate and so beautiful.

Sunday

Yesterday I attended the annual Helsinki book fair, oh dear, it was crowded. But I managed to find a few treasures, some so expensive I only dared to look - not touch. For ex. a hundred years old flora. The images were A3 size, handcoloured and so so delicate. Each image would make a beautiful piece of antique art to any home.
I did purchaise a large newspaper volume from year 1903, size 62cm x 45cm x 10cm. And it only cost me 10€! I´ll show you pics later.

Later in the evening I saw HDC (Helsinki dance company) performance Hardcore humppa. Amazing performance. It was breathtaking.

Above is a lovely tray I purchaised from Littlebyrdvintage on Etsy. It´s a lovely little shop that my fellow aquarian (we share the exact same birthday!), dear sweet Rebekah at Little byrd vintage hosts. I have not yet manged to hang it on the wall (it lacks wallpaper - poor excuse I know!). So it hangs above our clothesrack;) The buttonmagnets were a gift from Rebekah, what a creative idea to make magnets out of vintage buttons!

This short dance performance, "l´Esprit du bleu", by Carolyn Carlson is also breathtaking, it´s beautiful sad nostalgic, ah, just so so so beautiful. The music is also beatiful. Enjoy!

Saturday morning

Woke up fairly early, lit candles and turned on some easy music. I have no idea how to explain my sudden liking of this kind of music. It´s easy and easy to hum along to. Found ½ a cover of Cohens "Thousand kisses deep" and am searching searching searching to find the whole piece. I even wrote directly to the family (!) to ask about the matter, but have not yet received a reply;)

Today I´m going to the annual Helsinki book fair and tonight me and my colleagues are going to see the HDC Hardcore Humppa, contemporary dance performance. After we´re going out for a few drinks.

Above is an old english muffin form purchaised from Elsa K. Great for candles. I received it in the mail yesterday. And it was such a pleasure to open the parcel at it was delicately packed, with small scented labels and fine paper.

As time goes by

Winter has defentaly arrived. It´s very dark, I need to use a light on my bike already at 6 pm.!
Now it´s time to use lots of candles and make it cosy and warm.

This shelf is in the bedroom. Above my pigeon.

Time just flies by, I´m very busy and I try to remember to pause and stop. This is a good way to stop and pause, ladies and gentlemen, I´ll give you "As time goes by". Enjoy!

Mao, me and Melody

Walked along the railroad today. Found waste.
I feel a little tired today as I had difficulties sleep last night. Soon it is time for a sauna and then relax relax relax. I will now listen to a few songs by Melody Gardot (read about her on the net and I must say it was an itriguing story!).
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Plums

A poem by William Carlos Williams. I first read this poem on the London undergound in 1986. And now I did this. It took me almost a whole day to complete! The letters are tiny tiny tiny. I must be nuts;) Anyhow, I find this so charming somehow. And now it´s already sold.

George Harrison and the light

Had a lovely anniversary, thank you all. Yesterday after work I attended my friends birthday. Such a lovely little party. I also think I made a few new friends. And I noticed today that I thought of them and also felt a sort of longing, sent out a few wishes of hope to meet soon again!

This morning the light was different, the autumn sun was out and I felt an urge to get out as soon as possible, so I cykled the longer route to work, it has nicer scenery. I stopped to pick some coloured leaves on the way and enjoyed the weather. And suddenly I noticed I was humming on a very old George Harrison tune called What is life, a song I absolutely loved as a child in the early 70´s. I also adored, no, I loved My sweet Lord. And the light combined with the tune I was humming on, flew me right back to my childhood and I remembered some really funny things that have made me smile many times during the day.

I found the one whom my soul loves

It´s our woollen anniversary today! Jeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I have been married to the love of my life for seven years! We´ve dated for soon 15 years.

My weddingdress was made out of the fabric above. This pattern of glassbeads was in the hem, the skirt was A-formed with a tiny tail. The ceremony took place on a clear saturday night at 9 pm. And we celebrated until the morning with our closest family and friends, from near and far. I cried most of the ceremony as we had plenty of music and a choir (!) and beautiful poems read by dear friends. Our weddingmarch was the beautiful Marche pour la cérémonie des Turcs by J.B. Lully. It became wellknown in the film Tout les matins du monde.

And tonight I´ll dine with the one whom my soul loves. I´m so lucky.

Earlybird reminder: last day to participate in my competition!

Woke up at 4am! Well, it´s my day off so it will not matter, I can climb back under the covers soon and perhaps catch some more sleep. I only have a meeting in the afternoon (workrelated) and a birthday-/ farewellparty in the evening.

Remember to participate in the competition. All comments left by midnight are in!

Wishing you a very relaxed, fun and creative weekend. I´m going to continue my project to pimp my silk-skirt - I have a vision of how it will look and I also hope to wear it to the party tonight.

Early morning shadows above.

Felt flowers

Made lots of these felt-flowers to wear on a collar/ headband. They are quite warm aswell. And they were easy and fun to make. Now I want more but in different colours. Here we come new season and new head-decorations!

Had my knitting-group gathered at the café tonight. We meet up every second week, on thrusday nights, to knit and crochet together. I have grown very fond of the ladies who attend. And i am soooo looking forward to our next knitting-night. I felt a bit chatty today, so whilst crocheting away on my granny squares I told them funny, no actually, sligthtly silly stories.

Hardcore humppa

I ordered tickets to a dance performancer today by the Helsinki Dance Company (HDC) called Hardcore humppa. Humppa is a form of dance, by my generation felt as perhaps slightly outdated and looked upon with raised eyebrows. Well, the humppa-music isn´t really my cup of tea either. The choreographer, Harri Kuorelahti, oh dear, I could go on for hrs on how wonderful I think he is. He also has an extensive history as a dancer with the HDC.
This link has got nothing to do with the Hardcore humppa perf. nor Harri Kuorelahti. Except that Nigel Charnock used to be the HDC artistic director. If you like contemporary dance then this is play and fun for you;)

Night

After work I went to the gym. Then cykled home and had a shower, chatted on the phone with my brother for a while (I seldom speak on the phone, so it is worth mentioning), had a lovely dinner, read a few e-mails (did not ven reply to them all!). And now it´s night. Where, oh where did the time go? I cannot understand how all this could have taken up all evening? I haven´t done anything yet!!!!

This is somehow lovely. I really enjoy Scarlett´s voice.

Stormy weather

My goodness how stormy it is! It was sooooo heavy to cykle today. But it didn´t rain!
It did rain yesterday, cats and dogs it rained! And the wind was about to steal my beautiful headband as I stepped out of the car to attend my husbands grandmothers 90th birthday. So in I walked with my hair and headband all tangled up, but luckily there were plenty of handy women who managed to re-tangle my hair and me and my headband.

Stormy weather

Had some good and, well it´s not sad news, perhaps more nostalgic news, my dear friend A has a new job. That´s great. But the job is all the way in London! He is throwing a birthday-party on saturday and now it turns out to be a farewell-party aswell. Well, all the more reason to visit my favorite city.

Dont´forget my competiton below;))

This is my 100th post!
And of course I will have a little competition, I don´t believe I have all that many readers that it will be a tough competition, but that´s beside the point! A competition is a competition!
By leaving a comment by the end of next week, let´s see, by the 10th of october, you´re in!

The price is this artwork pictured above, made by me. Good luck and have a smashing weekend!

Misty

The misty moon shining. It was a very dark night, no stars - only the misty moon. I was snug and warm, lying on the sofa listening to an audio-book.

Today looks like a perfect autumn day. Need to make sure I have warm clothes, or perhaps not warm, but tight clothes that keep the chilly wind out as I will cykle to work, jeeee.
My husband will come in for lunch in the afternoon, which is a treat - he has a day off.

Beautiful day

When I woke up this morning, I lay on the sofa in the living room, just watching the shadows dancing along the walls and ceiling. A chandelier standing in the window was found on the wall...
I suppose when one is forced to slow down, there is suddenly so much to see. It sounds such a cliché, but...
I do feel well, but to be on the safe side I am still going to be a convalescent for today.
It´s a beautiful day, the sun is out, all the colours are sharp. I belive it to be fairly chilly out there. But this lady will stay snug inside.
