Valborg

We are celebrating Vappu - Valborg here in the north today and tomorrow. Today there's lots of parties and tomorow most people will have a traditional picnic and listen to the studentchoirs welcome the spring by song. Tonight at 6pm. our Havis Amanda statue by the market square, will receive a traditional students cap by one of the student unions (I do not know where this tradition derives from). The city is transformed into some sort of carnival, Helsinki is a student town with many universities and the student unions are very active and you can spot them wearing overalls covered with sponsorlabels and usually drunk or at least very tipsy;)
It's the worker's day tomorrow. And there will obviously be some political marches, speeches and such.

I will attend a party tonight and tomorrow I will enjoy Valborg lunch with friends.
They have promised fantastic weather so a little work in the garden is also scheduled.

Here is Laleh singing Vårens första dag (the first day of spring). It is my powersong, I need to listen to it loud and jump!!!!

Whatever you are celebrating, enjoy!

One of those days...

It has been a fabulous day today, the sun was out and everyone I met mentioned the wonderful weather! Including myself! Then I had a phonecall, it was from a small theatre and they informed me tonights perfomance was cancelled, I was supposed to go and had a reservation for me and my friend M. So I decided to go for a run instead and then I had a sauna.
The photograph above I picked up yesterday at the charityshop. I have looked at it several times in the shop and now I thought maybe she would like to live with me;) I believe a dog has loved her, there are clearly small marks and they look like teeth.

I found this poem, it is so touching.
Wild geese by Mary Oliver, enjoy!

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Most people probably sleep...

..but I'm still up. I am tired and about to go to bed, just thought I post a pic of a lamp I found at a charityshop today, I made a shade of old musicalnotes. I cykled past the charityshop on my way to the cinema, I saw David Lynch's documentary Meditation, Creativity, Peace. I found it warm, amusing and rather boring at times;) It was a mere coincident that I decided to go see the film. I am not the greatest fan of David Lynch, I really enjoyed The Straight Story, well, that's about it really. I really hated Twin Peaks...I don't think I watched a single episode as it was too scary for me. Before cykling past the charityshop I had a long lunch meeting at a vegan restaurant. My pick. Everyone loved it. The food was amazing, the staff the kindest and the location just so charming. I am now the happy owner of a new sewingmachine. The repairguy called and said the engine and a few useful parts of my former machine were so totally used and would cost me a fortune to have replaced, he suggested I invest in a new machine. So I did. Thank you all for your support! Good night sweet people!

Ah bless!

A certain someone has the kindest parents ever! My mum happened to call whilst I was in despair over my broken sewingmachine and after a short while she called back and said they had decided to lend me their sewingmachine, while mine is in repair. And my dad even offered to take my machine and take it into repair on monday!!!! How spoiled can I be???? I don't have a car, I am lousy at asking for help or favours, so I am very grateful. They are so sweet and kind. I am indeed a very spoiled daughter. I have completed five cushions today. Four are pictured above, the fifth I cannot show as it is a present. It is different from the four in the picture and made of different material. The cushions are made of vintage scarves, lined with an antique sheet and decorated with vintage lace. "Stuffing" from old cushions I've collected at the fleamarkets and washed. So all recykled.

This cannot happen!!!!!

I feel as if I lost an arm!!!! My sewingmachine broke!!! Picture the scene, you've just started sewing a project that has been waiting for just the right mood/ moment... and you are listening to the perfect "work" music, you are in the flow and SCRRRUNTZZH. I tried everything. I cleaned, I took apart, pieced it together, spoke gently, used a few rather harsh expressions, begged. But no, it is broken. I did shead a few tears :( I was sewing cushions of old scarves and lace. Pictured above. One is ready, just needs filling. The three others are cut and ready to be sown. I hope the repair is quick and cheap (ha, yeah, you wish!)

Birthday alert!

It is raining today, good, melts the last remaining snow. I am attending a friends birthday tonight - I might have to take the bus instead of my bike, as it is literary pouring down. The party is held at a rather hip venue, so I don't fancy attending soaked;) Tomorrow anohter friend is organizing a little party as she also had a birthday this week. I am really looking forward to the party tomorrow as my friend R is a fantastic cook (and she is spanish!), so I know we are up for some delicious treats! Sunday I shall spend much time in my bed, seen above, reading and listening to music. Have a wonderful weekend!

Matching mermaids

I've had a busy day, meetings and trying to handle a huuuuuge pile of laundry. I have tackled the laundry and the outcome of the meetings were also satisfying. Now I feel ready for bed and found this old card on my bed...I was going through some drawers this morning and found it and must have forgotten it on the bed. In this light it matches my bedcover and cushions. I also feel a need to stretch out like the mermaid in the picture does...and since it matches my bed so well I might need to leave it hanging there always;) Hope you've all conquered whatever tasks you had today and wish you a very good night!

Life is dance

Tonight I saw Blinded Mind by Susanna Leinonen Company. We worked together end of 90's and it has been a thrill to follow her work since and a thrill to meet up. We only chatted for a short while tonight after the performance. I could easily have stayed on tonight. It was once again such a fantastic experience. I do hope you get a chance to see her work. I have been listening to this. I cannot put my finger on what it is, but I need to hear it over and over.

Inspired

And above that, I have also done a great deal of networking during the seminar. The workshops were very inspiring and intensive, and I'm happy and proud I was invited to both take part and lead. The danceworkshop on friday was the best I've experienced in a long long time. We worked for 6hrs with a short pause of 15 minutes! We were just too eager to continue work! I met wonderful people and feel so inpired, so filled with enthusiasm. And work doesn't end here - I was offered many new collaborations and today I had a phonecall from one of the producers to take part in the next seminar. Happy me!!!!

Seminar in red

I completed a long run tonight, had a sauna and pasta with fresh spinach for dinner, even enjoyed a glass of chilled white wine. I am attending a 3 day long seminar starting tomorrow. And in the seminar I´m doing 2 worshops, one of them by myself tomorrow afternoon and on saturday together with my dear colleague M. There will be approx 40 partcipants so it will be a fun challenge, well, I do know what I´m doing and it is something I love doing. the challenge is the amount of people attending - but I have planned it all well and I shall sleep well, attend yoga in the morning and then head off to a fun job!!!! Lucky me! I am myself taking part in one workshop on friday, with a choreographer I admire greatly and I can't wait to work with her!!!! So busy is what I will be. And there will be a dinnerparty tomorrow evening that I'm very much looking forward to. I shall wear red tights, red pearls, a red flower in my hair and paint my nails RED;)

On my way home today I found this lovely kitten in the charityshop. The frame is made of salvaged wood and is soft as silk. Oh joy!

Happy Easter!

I´m just about to leave for my joga-class and then work for a few hrs. Yesterday I spent the day cykling in awful weather and trying to dry at my friends cottage;) Today is a dryer day, so I´m looking forward to a ride through a rather quiet city (I believe). Wishing you all a happy easter!

And guess what, I won a giveaway! The one I had pinned on my blog! I won an olive-print artwork from Autuas olo. I am sooooo lucky! Easter is very soon and I haven´t figured out if something needs to be sorted...I'm trying to keep a grocery-list...fresh ginger, coffee, ryebread, flowers... Above, a favorite little nook. Listening to lovely Rebekka Bakken. Enjoy!

The mystical dissapearance of a 3mm long nail

This is what happened, I was about to pin it to the small box with my hammer when I decided to change the positioning of the box, and in one second it was gone. I have searched everywhere. I do not know what to do. I have no other 3mm long nails - I really need the one that dissapeared. For my small box project seen above;) The box previously used to store silverspoons (I think) and will now be used to store, hmmm, stuff. Not sure if the box thinks it's progress. Nobody asked the box. I covered the lid with nostalgia stamps from Finland. Part of my vast childhood collection.

Home again

I´m drinking tea, my cat is fast asleep and I´m listening to Michael Kiwanuka. His new album Home again is such a lovely treat. Have a good start to the week dear friends! Above is a tiny tintype.
